Cape Town’s two RESTAURANT entries
Fyn and Salsify at the Roundhouse are the only two South African restaurants to feature on this year’s 51–100 list.
Their 17-place climbs mean that both Cape Town establishments have made significant gains in the international rankings.
The results put both restaurants ahead of a host of highly regarded establishments from major culinary destinations around the world.
The 51–100 list spans six continents, 25 territories and 36 cities, highlighting restaurants across Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa and the Middle East.
Fyn’s No. 65 position represents another strong showing for the Cape Town restaurant.
The restaurant is known for its modern interpretation of South African cuisine, drawing on local ingredients and influences while incorporating Japanese-inspired techniques and presentation.
Its latest ranking puts it firmly among the world’s recognised dining destinations.
Salsify at the Roundhouse has matched Fyn’s progress, rising 17 places to No. 71.
The restaurant is located at the historic Roundhouse in Cape Town and has become one of the city’s best-known fine-dining destinations.
For Cape Town, the results also add to the city’s growing reputation as a destination for international food tourism.
How are the world’s best restaurants chosen?
The rankings are determined through votes from more than 1 100 international restaurant industry experts, including chefs, food writers and other culinary specialists.
The voting academy is divided into 28 regions and operates with a 50/50 gender balance. At least 25% of academy members are also refreshed each year.
Professional services consultancy Deloitte acts as the awards’ independent adjudication partner, overseeing the integrity of the voting process.
This means the rankings are based on votes from a broad international group rather than a single panel or restaurant critic.
The top 50 are still to comeWhile Fyn and Salsify have already secured their places in the 51–100 ranking, the biggest results are still under wraps.
The full list, including the restaurants ranked from No. 1 to No. 50, will be announced at the main awards ceremony in Lima on Wednesday, 4 November.
The ceremony will take place at the Teatro Municipal de Lima and will also be streamed live on The 50’s YouTube channel. The broadcast is scheduled to begin at 20:00 Lima time.
