⚽GIRLS SOCCER - Division I
Cumberland 4, Chariho 1
Paynter Maher had a hand in all four goals as Cumberland controlled the late stages to pull away for a 4-1 victory over Chariho.
Maher collected a hat trick and assisted on Mackenzie Ferrer’s first career goal in stoppage time as the Clippers continued their run among the favorites in Division I.
Cumberland scored three times after Morgan Brucker converted a penalty kick that brought the Chargers level at 1-1 in the 64th minute. Maher needed just seconds to respond to Chariho’s equalizer, forcing a shot from the right wing through the keeper to make it 2-1. She floated home a third from almost the same spot in the 71st minute, a right-footed effort that came down just under the crossbar.
Maher played provider in the dying seconds, as her pinpoint cross skipped along the grass and gave Ferrer a simple tap-in from close range. Cumberland (12-1-1) carried a 1-0 lead midway through the second half thanks to Maher’s opener and seemed in command. The Chargers (6-6-2) drew level when Brucker stepped to the spot and fired low into the right corner.
That left the Clippers just 16 minutes to find a winner, and they did so while collecting a fifth straight win and extending their unbeaten run to seven matches.

The Quakers and Skippers battled to a scoreless draw in a defensive matchup on Thursday at North Kingstown. Neither side was able to break through in the first half, sending the game into halftime tied 0-0, and the defenses continued to hold firm after the break.
North Kingstown goalkeeper Rylie Palumbo turned aside six shots to preserve the shutout, while Moses Brown’s Marielle Nassiff was busy at the other end, making 11 saves to keep NK off the scoreboard.
