Former quarterback Russell Wilson believes a Pittsburgh Steeler is in the running for Offensive Player of the Year.

No Pittsburgh Steeler has ever won the Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year award. However, former Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson thinks this season could be the end to that drought.

Wilson believes that Steelers running back Jaylen Warren has a real shot to be the 2026 NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

“When you have a running back like Jaylen Warren that catches the ball in the flat, he’s a bowling ball,” Wilson said on his Set, Hut! podcast. “He’s not gonna be tackled on the first attempt. … Jaylen Warren’s one of those guys that could win Offensive Player of the Year, in my opinion.”

Warren has been very dominant as of late. He now has had 176, 126 and 188 yards from scrimmage in the Steelers’ last three games.

During the team’s latest 34-22 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, Warren became the first player in Steelers history with a 50+ yard receiving and rushing touchdown in the same game.

He also became the first NFL player to have an 80-yard touchdown reception and a 50-yard rushing touchdown in the same game since Herschel Walker did it for the Dallas Cowboys against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15, 1986.

Still, Warren faces quite the uphill battle to actually becoming a true contender for the award.

On top of not being a household name, only two undrafted players have ever won the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award. Quarterback Warren Moon won it in 1990 and then running back Priest Holmes did in 2002.

That isn’t to say Warren is capable of winning it, but he is going to have to continue his dominant production the rest of the season if he hopes to force his way into the conversation.

An undrafted free agent in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State, Warren has rushed for 3,042 yards and 13 touchdowns in his career.
