Iowa State needed a big win on Homecoming Saturday vs. West Virginia.
And thanks to a memorable performance by Aiden Flora, that is exactly what the Cyclones got.
Flora, who was a high school star in Iowa at Adel-Desoto-Minburn, ran for over 200 yards and three touchdowns while throwing two scores in a 45-42 victory over the Mountaineers.
Yes, you read that correctly.

Flora, a dual-threat high school quarterback, carried the football 22 times for 212 yards and three touchdowns. Each time he hit the end zone, Flora danced his way to jubilation by the nearly sold-out Jack Trice Stadium.

And when he wasn’t running in scores, Flora was throwing them. He finished 2-for-2 for 48 yards and two touchdowns, hitting Cody Jackson on a 46-yard score in the second to give Iowa State the lead.
Just five seconds before the first half ended, Flora found former high school teammate Vince Benetti on a 2-yard score. That touchdown pushed the Cyclones back up by seven.
In the second half, it was Flora’s legs that carried Iowa State. The walk-on who worked his way to a scholarship, scored on a 24-yard run, a 63-yard sprint and a game-winning 2-yard score with under two minutes to play.

Flora and West Virginia quarterback Michael Hawkins, Jr. put on a show. Hawkins did all he could to match Flora, throwing for 227 yards and two scores while running for 149 and two more touchdowns.

But in the end, it was Flora and the Cyclone celebrating.
Flora will head into a matchup with BYU with 594 yards rushing and six touchdowns on the year. He came into the season with just 111 yards and two scores in his career.
