‘Convinced Steelers Would’ve Won 8 Super Bowls,’ ‘I'm Gonna Cry’ — NFL World Loses It After Mike Tomlin Unveils His 12-Year Minecraft City

After stepping down as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers following the 2025 season, Mike Tomlin transitioned into sports media, joining NBC Sports as an analyst, where he has offered fans a different look at his personality away from coaching. His appearances have also highlighted his interest in video games, particularly Minecraft.

On Wednesday, Tomlin revealed a Minecraft city he said he had spent 12 years building, giving viewers a detailed look at the project.

Mike Tomlin’s Minecraft City Reveal Leads to Hilarious Reactions From NFL World

During a stream, the former Super Bowl-winning head coach gave viewers a tour of the city and explained the ideas behind its construction.

“I’m watching Mike Tomlin talk about the practicality of placing glowstones for lighting in your Minecraft world, what is happening,” one fan pondered, while earlier admitting, “How we are ALL spending this Wednesday evening.”

Another fan highlighted the level of detail in Tomlin’s creation, writing, “Mike Tomlin shows off the incredibly detailed interiors of high-rise apartments in the Minecraft city he has spent the last 12 years building.”

YouTube content creator Dom Italiano also found it riveting to check out, claiming, “This should have national coverage over any sporting event, this [expletive] means something to me.”

“Mike Tomlin built college high rises based on where his children went. I’m gonna cry, dawg,” JP Acosta exclaimed, focusing on the more personal details behind the former Steelers coach’s creation.

Not everyone viewed the Minecraft reveal as harmless fun, however. Some compared the praise Tomlin received with the criticism Kyler Murray faced for his gaming interests while he was an active NFL player.

NY Daily News’ Pat Leonard jokingly contrasted the praise for Tomlin’s gaming hobby with the scrutiny Murray previously faced over his own gaming habits, writing, “Kyler Murray watching everyone praising Mike Tomlin for being good at a video game while he was in charge of an NFL team.”

In the past, Murray had been criticized for his love of video games, with many in the NFL community calling it a distraction for the quarterback.

The Minecraft discussion also prompted some media figures to revisit Tomlin’s postseason record. Warren Sharp took the joke a step further by dividing Tomlin’s career into “before Minecraft” and “with Minecraft,” using the approximate timeline Tomlin gave for the project.

“Mike Tomlin Minecraft splits,” Sharp called it. “Tomlin before Minecraft (7 seasons) -1 Super Bowl win, 2 Super Bowl trips, 5 playoff wins (5-3, 0.625) overall. Tomlin with Minecraft (12 seasons)- 0 Super Bowl wins, 0 Super Bowl trips, 3 playoff wins (3-9, 0.250) overall.”

Tomlin’s postseason record was also a recurring topic of discussion near the end of his Steelers tenure, including the team’s lengthy stretch without a playoff victory.

JJ Zachariason leaned into the joke, adding, “Convinced the Steelers would’ve won 8 Super Bowls under Mike Tomlin if Minecraft didn’t exist.”

Regardless of the jokes surrounding Tomlin’s Minecraft city, the project has clearly attracted attention for the level of detail involved.

The personal touches, including the college-themed high-rises referenced by Acosta, have given fans plenty to discuss beyond the sheer size of the project.
