Stephen A. Smith: Giants should go after Shedeur Sanders
· Yahoo Sports
The New York Giants were devastated by the news that talented young quarterback Jaxson Dart would require season-ending knee surgery after going down early in Monday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The Giants are hopeful that Dart could be available if the team makes the playoffs, but are now faced with the tall task of getting there without the offense’s leader.

Unfortunately for New York, veteran backup quarterback Jameis Wintsont looked completely out of sorts in relief of Dart. However, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith believes he knows just the solution for the G-Men.
“Let me tell you something right now. If there was a possible way they could put it, I would tell the Giants to go and pursue Shedeur Sanders. I ain’t gonna lie to you; that would be what was on my mind personally,” Smith said on Thursday.

“Let me tell you something about this whole Jameis Winston situation. Yeah, they knew it. They signed him to a $13 million extension. Yes, Louis Riddick, you’re absolutely right in terms of, you know what, what you gonna do now? Well, guess what? It ain’t about looking for a top-30 quarterback. It’s about looking for a better backup than Jameis Winston. Could you find that? That’s the real question.
“Can you, can you pull that off if you’re the New York Giants? Because that’s what you’re looking for. For right now. The reality is, is that again, a lot of mistakes happen. We know who he is; unfortunately, in terms of the mistake is imminent.”
To Smith’s credit, one Cleveland area radio analyst thinks it might even be relatively cheap to acquire the young Cleveland Browns quarterback.
“I think Gabriel could get you more in a trade than Sanders could. Go into a new situation, get up to speed in a different offense,” ESPN Cleveland’s Aaron Goldhammer said on Thursday. “I think all his college experience— this isn’t like an attack on Shedeur. I just think given what we’re talking about, I think Gabriel is a better fit for it than Sanders is.”
The NFC East is still wide open. Now, it’s about how aggressive the Giants want to be in pursuit of a division title without Dart available.
