Jameis Winston vows ‘I’m going to execute better’ as Giants turn to him after Rams nightmare

Jameis Winston has promised to “execute better” after a difficult outing against the Los Angeles Rams, with the New York Giants now turning to him as their starting quarterback for the rest of the season.
Winston takes over after rookie Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury that requires surgery, ending his season. The Giants had viewed Winston as Dart’s backup, but the veteran now has the chance to lead the offence.

The 32-year-old has plenty of experience, having made 89 NFL starts before Sunday’s meeting with the Tennessee Titans. However, his most recent start for New York exposed some of the problems the Giants will need him to fix quickly.

Winston struggled after replacing Dart against the Rams, completing just 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and throwing an interception in the end zone during the 28-6 defeat.
He was quick to accept responsibility for the performance, though, and believes a full week with the starting offence can make a difference.
“I have to execute better and I am going to execute better,” Winston said.
Head coach John Harbaugh also pointed to Winston’s biggest strength when discussing the change at quarterback.
“Well, he can throw it,” Harbaugh said. “I mean, he’s a big, strong, passing quarterback. He can throw the ball. Everybody that follows football has certainly seen Jameis play, and that’s — his strengths are evident, so that’s what you build around.”
Winston has a 36-53 record as an NFL starter across 12 seasons and has not started more than seven games in a season since 2019.

“This is what I’ve always dreamed of, to be a starting quarterback,” Winston said.
His immediate focus is Sunday’s meeting with the Titans, where Winston will make his 90th NFL start and attempt to give the Giants a response after their heavy loss to the Rams.
“I am very confident in my ability to execute with precision and to lead the New York football Giants to victories. Very confident in that,” Winston said.
