The Florida Gators entered the 2026 college football season with one of the best running backs in the nation on their roster. Jadan Baugh was expected to have a big-time year. So far, he has not disappointed those expectations.

Baugh has played in three games so far this season. He has carried the football 54 times for 458 yards and eight touchdowns, while also chipping in with a catch for six yards.
At the same time as Baugh has been producing big individual numbers, the Gators have gotten off to a solid start to the Jon Sumrall era. They are 3-0 this season and are coming off of a big-time statement win over the SEC rival Auburn Tigers last week.
For the first time in a few years, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the Florida football program.
With that being said, Baugh has become a top-tier Heisman Trophy candidate. He spoke out about the hype recently.
In a quote shared by SportsCenter, the star running back boldly stated that he can do anything that he puts his mind to. Those comments show extreme confidence from the dynamic playmaker.
Last season, the Gators saw Baugh have his breakout year. He racked up 1,170 yards and eight touchdowns on 220 carries, averaging 5.3 yards per attempt. Baugh also racked up 33 receptions for 210 yards and two touchdowns as well.
Where does the Heisman Trophy race currently stand? USA Today recently released their latest rankings following Week 3 action.
Those rankings have placed Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss at No. 1, with Miami standout signal caller Darian Mensah coming in at No. 2. Ohio State wideout Jeremiah Smith was ranked third and Kamario Taylor was fourth. Baugh came in at No. 5 in the rankings.
Early season rankings change quite often. Baugh could either rise quickly or fall quickly. With the confidence he is showcasing, it would not be surprising to see him continue making his case to win the prestigious award.
Next up for the Gators will be a tough matchup against Chambliss and Ole Miss on Saturday evening. A big game from Baugh would continue forcing his name into the Heisman conversation.
Hopefully, Florida will be ready for the test. The Rebels are fresh off of a massive win last week over Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers. In order to defeat Ole Miss, the Gators are going to need another heavy dose of Baugh, which he sounds more than ready to handle.
