Caitlin Clark has never been afraid to show her emotion, particularly when the Fever are struggling. Her latest "outburst" is no exception.

The Indiana star issued a stern message to her teammates during the Fever's loss to the Mystics on Sunday. Clark, who led the way for the Fever with 25 points on 6-of-20 shooting, was less than pleased with Indiana's defensive showing early.

Given the stakes attached to Sunday's game, her frustration was at least somewhat understandable. Here's what you need to know.

Clark was exasperated by Indiana's defensive struggles in the first quarter of Monday's game. The Fever phenom said as much while bringing the ball down the floor at the end of the period, using profanity to make her point abundantly clear.

"That's why we need to rotate, so it's not every one for themselves," Clark said. "F—."

Her words proved prophetic. The Fever went on to concede 93 points on the day, two points higher than their average (the 12th-worst mark in the league). The Mystics sank 57 percent of their shot attempts. They shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, something of an anomaly given the fact that Washington ranks near the bottom of the league in three-pointers made, three-pointers attempted and three-point rate.

Indiana's defensive foibles were too much for Clark and Co. to overcome. The Fever fell by 16 points to Washington, leaving them just one game above the Liberty, Mystics and Wings in the playoff standings.

Clark produced 25 points in the outing, albeit on poor efficiency. She looked less than pleased with the Fever's performance at times, although that is to be expected in a blowout loss. The stakes of the game did nothing to help her mood; with the defeat, Indiana will need some help if it wants to get home court advantage in the first round.

The Fever close their regular-season with a pair of matchups against the WNBA's best team thus far, the Lynx.
