Former Pitt quarterback accused of stealing box truck at AHN hospital

A former Pitt quarterback was at the AHN Wexford Hospital on Friday morning when he reportedly decided to steal a box truck from the valet area. It remains unclear exactly why he was here in the first place and what motivated him to steal the truck.

“Yeah, I’m not sure what was going through his mind,” Deborah Clager said.
Deborah Clager with Rental Time Rentals in Gibsonia still can’t believe what happened Friday morning when she got a call from one of her drivers who was picking up tables and chairs from the AHN Wexford hospital.
“He’s like, ‘The truck was stolen.’ And I was like…'What?’ I thought he was joking. I was like, ‘Oh, sure it was - you’re at AHN Wexford,’" Clager explained.
While she was on the phone with him and Highmark Police officers, she was able to track the truck in real time.
She explained, “We have a tracking app on it, so I just kept refreshing and telling them play by play where it’s at. I’m like, it’s passing this street. It’s passing this street.”
Within the hour, Cranberry Township police pulled the box truck over on Family Road at the Victory Church parking area.
Philip Jurkovec, 26, was taken into police custody. Jurkovec played high school football for Pine Richland. He went on to play football at Notre Dame and Boston College. In 2023, Jurkovec transferred to the University of Pittsburgh, where he was the quarterback for a brief time.
“I still can’t believe it happened; it was just unbelievable,” Clager added.
Clager says she’s trying to understand what motivated the former college athlete to steal the truck that she says doesn’t go faster than 60 miles per hour.
“No idea why. I mean, of all the cars around there, a box truck would not have been my first choice,” she said.
She says nothing was damaged or taken and that they were able to get the truck back. Jurkovec is in the Allegheny County Jail where court records say he couldn’t post his $25,000 bond.
