Stephen F. Austin uses big first half to race past Prairie View A&M

PRAIRIE VIEW - Stephen F. Austin raced out to a big halftime lead and cruised to a 31-10 victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday night at Panther Stadium at Blackshear Field.
Stephen F. Austin (4-0) led 24-0 at halftime in winning the first matchup between the teams since 2013 and the first played at Prairie View.

Gavin Rutherford threw three first-half touchdown passes to put the Panthers (1-3) in a big hole. Prairie View didn't get closer than 21 points the rest of the way.
SFA outgained Prairie View 420 yards to 267. Rutherford threw for 213 yards and three TDs to one interception. Jeffery Jones added 77 yards on 12 carries with a TD.
Kaeden Smith scored the Panthers' lone TD on a 2-yard run with 4:02 left in the game.
Prairie View next plays Grambling at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. SFA hosts Northeastern State at 5 p.m. Saturday in Nacogdoches.
