UND and Iowa shift football matchup to start of 2027 season

Sep. 17—GRAND FORKS — UND and Iowa will now open the 2027 season after the two universities agreed to move the date of the game to Aug. 28 at Kinnick Stadium.
With the shift, UND will now face Long Island University on Sept. 18 of the 2027 season.

UND and Iowa last met in football nearly 100 years ago when the teams met in Iowa City on Oct. 9, 1926. Iowa won 40-17.
The Fighting Hawks, who are 3-0 and ranked No. 6 in the latest Stats Perform FCS Top 25, beat LIU in the 2026 home opener 42-21 and will play the back half of the home-and-home series with the Sharks next year in New York.
UND will also play a non-conference home game in 2027 against Idaho on Sept. 11.
Iowa, meanwhile, will face Ball State (Sept. 4) and Iowa State (Sept. 11) in non-conference play after UND in 2027.
On Saturday, UND will play at Nebraska with the school receiving a guarantee of $560,000. UND's Iowa matchup will net $550,000.
UND's FBS game in 2028 is at Minnesota on Aug. 31.
