Three teens charged in violent attack on elderly GO Train couple

Just days after police said they’ve identified the culprits , three young girls are in custody following last weekend’s assault on a pair of elderly GO Train passengers.
Three girls — aged 13, 15 and 16, all of whom can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) — face numerous charges in connection with the assault, footage of which quickly went viral.
In a video posted online, the group of loud, disrespectful teen girls are seen openly vaping and drinking vodka on an Oshawa-bound GO Train before verbally and physically assaulting the elderly couple.
“Three victims reported being harassed by a group of five teenage girls who were allegedly drinking alcohol, vaping and behaving in a disorderly manner on the train,” read a press release from Durham police.
One of the girls was seen striking a Good Samaritan on the hand and whipping an elderly woman in the face with her jacket before tossing an empty vodka bottle at them as they were disembarking at Whitby station.
Accused no strangers to police
The victims, an elderly couple heading home to Oshawa on a Saturday evening GO Train.
Attempts by the elderly victims to seek help from Metrolinx employees went nowhere, as employees approached by the couple appeared indifferent.
Inquiries by the Toronto Sun to Metrolinx as to why their employees refused to help went unacknowledged.
Police say they took the three girls into custody without incident, and according to their charges, are no strangers to police.
The 13-year-old was charged with causing a disturbance and disobeying a court order, while the 15-year-old was charged with failing to comply with a probation order.
The 16-year-old, seen in the video wearing a black jacket and pink pants, faces three counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, assault and causing a disturbance.
All three of the accused are from Oshawa and were released on undertakings.
“Video evidence and witness statements assisted investigators in identifying the suspects,” police said in their press release.
Amanda, the daughter of the elderly victims, told the Toronto Sun that the mother of one of the accused reached out to her, apologizing for her daughter’s behaviour and offering information to pass on to police.“To everyone who spoke up, shared information, sent messages and supported my parents — THANK YOU!” she said in a statement to the Sun, expressing gratitude for how quickly and passionately the video was spread.“We are overwhelmed with all the kindness you have shown for complete strangers.”Anybody with information should call Durham police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1805, or leave an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers.
