Chris Olave injury update puts Saints WR’s Week 2 status in question

The New Orleans Saints appear to have a new injury concern with wide receiver Chris Olave.

According to the team’s Thursday injury report, Olave was a new addition with a hamstring injury. This is the first time Olave has been on the injury report this season.
The concerning part is that a player being added to the injury report with a limited participation designation can be a sign that player got hurt during practice.
Another troubling thing to note is that Olave was spotted by the media early in practice before the Saints closed it off.
“Saints’ Chris Olave and Chase Young both added to the injury report Thursday. We saw them during the portion open to media, so remains to be seen if something crept up during practice,” Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football wrote.
Olave did leave the Week 1 game against the Detroit Lions briefly on two occasions with injuries, but it isn’t clear what those issues were.
That said, he was not listed on the Wednesday injury report, so this looks to be a new issue for the veteran wide receiver.
Fantasy football impact
Of course, we don’t have enough information to know if Olave will miss Week 2 yet, but fantasy football owners need to start planning for it at this point.
The situation behind Olave is extremely murky, as the Saints don’t have any truly established receivers behind him on the 53-man roster.
Devaughn Vele would qualify as the closest thing to that, but he only has 27 games and 837 receiving yards under his belt. His best season came in 2024, when he totaled 475 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
New Orleans only has two other receivers on their roster in rookies Barion Brown and Bryce Lance, both of whom are unproven. Lance had three catches for 42 yards in his debut last week, and Brown had one catch for three yards in his.
The Saints would have to call up at least one player from the practice squad if Olave sits. That group includes a bit more experience with guys like Cedric Tillman, Kevin Austin and Trey Palmer.
Tillman is the most notable of the three after he was a third-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2023 and posted some productive games during his stint there.
