The Green Bay Packers can't seem to get out of their own way lately.
The Packers ended their 2025 season by blowing a 21-3 second-half lead in an embarrassing loss to their NFC North rival, the Chicago Bears, in the NFC wild card game. They began 2026 the same way, blowing a 22-10 second-half lead in an embarrassing loss to another NFC North rival, the Minnesota Vikings. It's all part of a larger, alarming trend of failing to finish — and an extended six-game losing streak dating back to early December 2025 — that looks like it is slowly becoming the Packers' identity. Green Bay has officially blown a fourth-quarter lead in three of its last five games, including the playoffs.

When asked to explain why the Packers collapsed against the Vikings in dramatic fashion on Sunday (Minnesota scored 22 fourth-quarter points), it sure seemed like head coach Matt LaFleur was at a loss for words.
Uh, buddy? Newsflash: It's literally your job to know WHY your team seemingly can't close out wins! Deflecting by saying the media is just going to talk about it as a point of conversation (duh) isn't good enough:

Indeed, we are all going to talk about it until the Packers "do it" again. That's how it works when you fail in spectacular fashion. That's the deal.
The good news for the Packers is they might have an "easy" opponent on deck in Week 2 when they visit the New York Jets. After that, they'll host the lowly Atlanta Falcons in their home opener in Week 3. But lose either of those two games or, football gods forbid, both? Woof. I wouldn't want to be in LaFleur's shoes in that hypothetical scenario; that's for sure.
The Packers haven't advanced past the wild card round since 2023. For his and the Packers' sake, LaFleur's team better start finishing some games soon because the buck stops with him.
