German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has congratulated tennis star Alexander Zverev for winning the US Open, the second Grand Slam title of his career.

"First Paris, now New York: congratulations, dear Alex Zverev, for the deserved US Open win and for a second Grand Slam in one season. Strong performance!" Merz wrote on X on Monday morning.
The German tennis player defeated Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), 5-7, 6-2 in Sunday's final.
Zverev won the French Open in June and back then he received a call from Merz after the victory.
