Injury updates for UCLA football ahead of Week 2's game versus SDSU

· Yahoo Sports

We’re just hours away from kickoff when the UCLA Bruins will take the field at the Rose Bowl for the first time in the 2026 season. The 1-0 San Diego State Aztecs head north looking for a victory over UCLA but to do so, they’ll have to beat a pretty healthy UCLA team.

In the first drive of the game in Week 1, UCLA lost several players to injuries, but luckily for the Bruins the injuries didn’t appear to be all that serious. Ahead of Week 2 of the college football season, On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos provided some updates for UCLA players dealing with injuries.

Safety - Tao Johnson

One of those early injuries was new Bruin safety Tao Johnson. Johnson is a talented piece for the UCLA defense but Ta’Shawn James replaced Johnson and ended up snatching two interceptions. Johnson’s status for Saturday’s game hasn’t been announced but the Bruins’ secondary should have the depth to make up for his potential absence.

Wide Receiver - Landon Ellis

Bruin wide receiver Landon Ellis is a game-time decision after going down with a scary injury versus Cal. The UCLA offense ran a trick player that ended up with Ellis taking a scary shot to the head. According to Nakos, Ellis will be a game-time decision for the Bruins.

Wide Receiver - Aidan Mizzell

Another UCLA wide receiver, Aidan Mizzell, appears set to make his Bruins debut after missing Week 1. Mizzell was kept out of the Cal game due to an undisclosed injury. Mizzell’s return to the lineup will only help a Bruins’ offense that scored 45 points last week.

Quarterback - Nico Iamaleava

After leaving the game last week, both Bob Chesney and Nico Iamaleava expressed that Iamaleava’s injury was minor and that he wouldn’t be missing time after having his calf stepped on in the fourth quarter.

Running Back - Anthony Woods

Running back Anthony Woods is also expected to play on Saturday. Woods had a huge Week 1 but did suffer an injury. Woods was wearing a non-contact jersey this week at practice but Nakos reported that the running back is expected to play.
