Lamar Jackson remains one of the biggest names in Louisville football history, and Lincoln Kienholz just matched a remarkable feat associated with the Cardinals legend.

Kienholz helped Louisville defeat Villanova 59-13 on Friday night, producing a performance that immediately caught the attention of the college football world.

After Kienholz and Louisville suffered a narrow 41-38 loss to Ole Miss in their season opener, he showed in the Villanova game why he was one of the most coveted players in the portal. He completed 16 of 21 attempts for 332 yards and two touchdowns.
Kienholz’s performance included seven completions of 19 or more yards, and he also produced a first-half statistical feat reminiscent of Jackson.
He became the first Louisville player since Jackson in 2016 to record at least 275 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and two rushing touchdowns in a single half. Jackson accomplished the feat while accounting for eight touchdowns against Charlotte in 2016.
Fans had plenty to say about Keinholz as the stat came to light.
“Might have a future Heisman candidate on our hands,” one said.
“8 TDs in the first half still crazy every time I hear it,” another fan said.
“They got Kienholz at a huge discount relative to how he has played through two games. That is the kind of bet that when you hit it, you need to do something BIG. We squandered Shough in a similar spot and can’t afford to do the same here. Make the playoff and get it done,” one added.

Kienholz is now getting the opportunity to showcase many of the skills he developed during his time at Ohio State. He served as Julian Sayin’s primary backup last season, but his chances of moving beyond that role in Columbus appeared limited.
With the Buckeyes consistently bringing in highly talented quarterbacks, Kienholz’s long-term path to becoming the starter was far from certain. That ultimately played a role in his decision to enter the transfer portal and continue his career at Louisville.
If Kienholz continues producing at this level and eventually becomes a Heisman Trophy finalist, the comparison between Kienholz and Sayin could become an interesting discussion.

Louisville’s fireworks against Villanova also marked the program’s highest point total since it opened the 2024 season with a 62-0 shutout of Austin Peay. The Cardinals will now look to carry that momentum into their next challenge when they play SMU next Saturday.
