according to SAWS, most of the country stays cloudy and cool today
Mpumalanga sees morning fog patches along the escarpment, otherwise cloudy and cool to cold with isolated showers and rain.
Limpopo starts with morning fog patches along the escarpment too, otherwise cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain.
North West stays cloudy and cool, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon, with isolated showers and rain in the east.
The Free State sees morning fog patches in the extreme east, otherwise cloudy to partly cloudy with isolated showers and rain, except in the west.
The Northern Cape stays cloudy with morning fog along the coast, otherwise partly cloudy, windy and cool to warm, but fine and hot in the west.
The Western Cape sees partly cloudy conditions over the north-eastern parts, otherwise fine and warm to hot. The UVB sunburn index here is “very high” today.
The western half of the Eastern Cape stays fine and warm. The eastern half starts with morning fog in places before turning fine and warm, cool in the north.
KwaZulu-Natal sees morning fog over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and rain in the north. The UVB sunburn index is “high” here too.
why the west is staying dry while everywhere else stays cloudy
This split in conditions is tied to the cut-off low that’s dominated the country’s weather for over a week.
According to SAWS, the system is beginning to weaken, though it remains active enough to keep producing showers and thundershowers over the eastern interior, even as its influence on the Western Cape fades.
It’s genuinely striking to see such a clean divide between fine and hot conditions in the west and cloudy, cool weather everywhere else. A good reminder that even a weakening system can still leave its mark.
