Virginia High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams – Sept. 6

Another week of high school football in Virginia is complete. Some of the state’s best teams were in action and even went head-to-head against one another. As a result, there is a shake-up in how the top 25 rankings look.
We are still in the relatively early portions of the journey, as everyone is looking to end the 2026 season with a state championship. Below are the top 25 Virginia high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 6.

1. The St. James Academy (2-0)
For the second straight week, The St. James Academy holds down the No. 1 spot. And there is no real argument against them after taking down New Jersey’s No. 5 team, Paramus Catholic. An impressive start to the season.
2. Varina (2-0)
Varina was a part of a top-10 in-state showdown on Friday. The Blue Devils came out on top, pulling off one of the more impressive victories of the weekend. More on the team Varina beat by one point is coming up.

3. Oscar Smith (1-0)
The 2026 campaign is finally underway for Oscar Smith. Thankfully, everything went swimmingly. A 29-6 win over Warwick (VA) is about what the Massey Rankings prediction had the game. Oscar Smith keeps its top-three ranking despite only one game played.
4. Stone Bridge (2-0)
For a second straight week, Stone Bridge was facing off against a ranked opponent. And to no surprise, the Bulldogs got the job done. But even as the record now stands at 2-0, the schedule does not slow down from here.
5. Huguenot (1-0)
Not even in the top 25 a week ago, Huguenot shot up the rankings to close out the top five. While there will be more on their opponent later, the Falcons put together an all-around performance worthy of the massive bump.
6. Riverbend (2-0)
Riverbend has been a part of a couple of blowouts thus far. At some point, the Bears will get tested and maybe move up. For now, they will comfortably slot into No. 6 and enjoy how they’ve played through two games.
7. Colonial Forge (1-0)
Thursday night is when Colonial Forge got its season underway. What better fashion to do so than getting a 28-0 victory over Patriot (VA)? Another Thursday game is on deck before shifting to Friday nights.
8. Maury (0-2)
After losing to Varina, the 0-2 record for Maury is a tough pill to swallow. However, those two losses have been against quality opponents and by a combined two points. Hard to imagine anybody is having a tougher start to the year.
9. Dinwiddie (2-0)
Two games, two wins for Dinwiddie. Granby (VA) was on the losing end of a 43-0 result, meaning the Generals are still looking for a test. Thankfully for them, Friday brings a showdown vs. the No. 10 team in Virginia.
10. Highland Springs (1-1)
Highland Springs was on the losing end against Huguenot. The Massey Rankings prediction had Springers as comfortable favorites. Turns out, what took place on the field was considered a surprise.
