The summer window may have just closed, but Barcelona are already planning for January, with a significant financial decision looming on the horizon.
The club have approximately €60 million available in their Financial Fair Play allocation, giving them room to manoeuvre in the winter market should they choose to.
However, that money could also serve a very different purpose, particularly for the season ahead.

According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona face a clear choice with their available FFP funds.
The first option is to use the €60 million to make a signing in January.
Barcelona did not manage to bring in a left-footed centre-back before the summer deadline, and if Deco deems it necessary, the club could address that gap when the window reopens on January 2.
The second option, however, is arguably more significant from a long-term perspective.
Under LaLiga regulations, Barcelona can request to transfer their available FFP funds towards the Salary Mass Limit for the 2027-28 season, provided they submit the request before the winter market opens.
The catch is that only 75% of the allocated amount would count, meaning the full €60 million would translate into roughly €45 million against next season’s wage cap.

The reason this decision carries such weight is Barcelona’s impending return to the Olympic Stadium on Montjuic.
The placement of the roof at the Spotify Camp Nou will force Barcelona to play approximately four months of the 2027-28 season away from their home ground.
That will result in a significant drop in matchday revenue, estimated at around €40 million less than the current campaign, when all matches are being played at the Camp Nou.
Transferring the FFP funds towards the salary limit would help offset those losses and keep Barcelona within the 1:1 spending rule.
However, it would also leave the club with zero room for signings at the start of next summer until departures were made.
Barcelona have less than three months to make their decision.
