The Ohio State receiver is showing why he is one of the top players in the country, feasting on the Ball State defense in Week 1 to put the No. 1 team in the country in great position to coast toward a season-opening win.

The day started with a score, when Julian Sayin found Smith and he was able to haul it in with one hand against his helmet for a 48-yard touchdown that made for an impressive first catch of the season.

Smith continued to dominate the rest of the first half, and he punctuated it with another score, a toe-tapping 3-yard reception just before the first half ended to give the Buckeyes a 28-3 lead.

And to celebrate, Smith hit the Heisman pose, copying Miami's Malachi Toney, who hit the iconic move after each of his three touchdowns Sept. 4. Smith, who was beat out by USC's Makai Lemon for the Biletnikoff Award in 2025, posted an emotional response in the aftermath. This year it seems he's coming for more.

While it may be premature, it was in fact an excellent first half for Smith. In the first two quarters, he had eight catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns. It's already his 12th 100+-yard game of his college career, and he's close to his career-high of 187 yards in the 2025 Rose Bowl Game.
