EThekwini Municipality confirms 12-hour power outage on Sunday

Eskom will implement a 12-hour power outage in parts of the eThekwini Municipality on Sunday, 6 September. 

The power outage is scheduled from 06:00 – 18:00 in Mpumalanga township, Hammarsdale.

ESKOM TO IMPLEMENT 12-HOUR POWER OUTAGE IN ETHEKWINI 

The eThekwini Municipality said the electricity supply  interruption is necessary to enable Eskom Transmission to safely carry out repairs to a gas leak on a circuit breaker on the upstream supply to Mpumalanga Substation. 

“The repairs are required to improve the security and reliability of the electricity supply to the substation. To ensure the work is conducted safely, Mpumalanga Substation will be temporarily taken out of service for the duration of the planned work.”

Parts of the following area may be affected: 

Mpumalanga Township 

“Customers in the affected area are requested to make the necessary arrangements in anticipation of the interruption.

“During the outage period, members of the public are advised to always treat all electrical installations as live, as electricity supply may be restored without prior notice,” the eThekwini Municipality said.

POWER UTILITY CONDUCTS MAINTENANCE ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town has announced a planned 12-hour power outage by Eskom to allow for essential maintenance and upgrades to its electricity infrastructure.

According to the metropolitan municipality, the scheduled outage will be carried out from 06:30 on Monday, 21 September, until 18:30 the same day, if all goes according to plan. 

The planned electricity interruption forms part of the City’s ongoing infrastructure maintenance programme aimed at improving the reliability of electricity supply.
