Elgin, Mount Gilead, North Union earn big football wins in Week 3

Elgin stayed undefeated in a big way during Week 3 Northwest Central Conference football action Sept. 4.
The Comets, now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the NWCC, dominated in a 59-28 victory over Waynesfield-Goshen, which drops to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Elgin's Archer Johnston rolled up 307 all-purpose yards, five touchdowns and one 2-point conversion. He rushed 24 times for 222 yards and four TDs, and he ran back an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Abram Norton backed him with 15 carries for 142 yards and two more scores.
Nine Elgin players earned carries, as the team ran 56 times for 430 yards and a 7.7 yards per carry average.

Mount Gilead 42, Grove City Christian 7
Mount Gilead led 28-7 at halftime and cruised from there dropping GCC to 0-3 and running its record to 2-1.
While the MG offense rang up 488 total yards with 405 on the ground, the defense limited GCC to 170 total yards with 61 from rushes.
Mount Gilead's Wyatt Long completed 4 of 6 passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns and ran in a TD. Tyler Herr caught three for 77 yards and a touchdown, plus ran it nine times for 200 yards and a score. Brent Robson had the other TD catch. Boe Sayers rushed for 137 yards and two TDs on 13 carries.
North Union 41, Northmor 14
The Wildcats (3-0) pulled away in the second half after being tied at 14-14 in the first quarter and leading Northmor 21-14 at halftime.
NU's Nickolas Hajjar was 9-for-21 passing for 186 yards and a 56-yard TD pass to Dainon Lindsey. Hajjar also ran in two keepers to end with 60 yards on 12 carries. Wyatt Arver led the Wildcats with 76 running yards on seven carries, scoring three TDs, and Brycen Delawder touched it four times for 40 yards. Lindsey ended with five receptions for 153 yards and the score, and he intercepted a pass as did Trenor Kyte.
For Northmor (0-3), Tanner Miley was 10-for-20 passing for 54 yards and a pair of TD passes. He led the team with 29 yards on 26 carries, while Brody Beck had 26 yards on 11 carries. Jackson Welch hauled in both TD passes and finished with eight receptions for 43 yards.
Whitehall-Yearling 39, Pleasant 14
Keean Perriguey scored both Pleasant touchdowns on defensive plays, returning an interception 7 yards and recovering a fumble in the end zone. Also for Pleasant (1-2), Madden Queen blocked a kick and led with five tackles, and Collin Caudill intercepted a pass, while Ryan Conway made 4.5 tackles with a sack.
Weston Shaffer led the Spartans with 92 rushing yards on 28 touches, and he was 6-for-12 passing against the Rams (1-2) defense, ending with 36 yards in the air.
Mount Vernon 12, Highland 0
The defense for Highland (1-2) limited Mount Vernon (1-2) to 210 overall yards and just 37 on the ground via 20 carries. Kane Stover posted nine tackles and two tackles for loss, as the defense had two sacks and six tackles for loss.
Highland was held to 142 yards as Robby Schmidt was 6 of 19 passing for 64 yards, adding 32 yards on 18 carries. Nick Hinkle led the Scots with 36 rushing yards on 11 tries. Hudson Howell and Hayden Moore both made a pair of receptions.
Other results
Buckeye Valley defeated River Valley 35-21, while North Baltimore dropped Ridgedale 42-19, and Upper Scioto Valley squeaked by Cardington 14-13. No other details were made available.
