Insider: Carrick no longer ‘trusts’ Man Utd regular starter, urges INEOS to sign a replacement
· Yahoo Sports
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick is pleading with the management to find a new left-back to support Luke Shaw, especially following the latter’s poor display against Ipswich Town.
The Red Devils completed their midfield revamp by signing Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Belaba, but haven’t truly addressed their other departments, only recruiting a new backup goalkeeper in Karl Darlow.

At this stage, most pundits and fans would agree that bringing in a new left-back should be the top priority, but INEOS have less than 24 hours to accomplish this mission.

Last season, Shaw was the only Man Utd player to start in all 38 Premier League fixtures. But with the return of Champions League football, replicating this achievement remains highly unlikely, especially given his age (31) and agonising injury record over the years.
Moreover, the Southampton youth product hasn’t enjoyed a stellar start to his new campaign. While United earned their first win of the season by beating Ipswich 5-2, Shaw was the main guilty party on the opener, as he allowed Abdul Fatawu to easily skip past him before providing the assist for Leif Davis.
In her post-match player ratings, The Sun journalist Katherine Walsh handed Shaw the lowest rating (5/10) among Man Utd players, highlighting his ‘nightmarish’ duel against the Ipswich winger.
According to reliable Carrington insider Sully, the experienced full-back has lost Carrick’s trust in the defensive phase, as the manager lobbies with the hierarchy to bring in reinforcement on the left flank.
“What I’ve heard, regardless of this game, is that Carrick doesn’t fully trust Luke Shaw off the ball, and he’s made the need for another left-back clear to the recruitment team,” posted the journalist on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“I believe they are still working on a left-back, and I haven’t heard anything to say otherwise yet.”
Can Man Utd pull off a late-summer signing?

Over the past few years, Man Utd have always made a signing on the summer’s deadline day, and this year isn’t shaping up to be an exception.
After all, the management must have realised they cannot afford to leave Carrick with only one recognised senior left-back, especially one he ‘doesn’t fully trust’ in defence.
Harry Amass might end up staying as an emergency option, while Patrick Dorgu could always reconvert to his original role, but neither would be a satisfying solution for the manager, who needs a convincing reinforcement.
However, at this incredibly late stage of the market, United may have to settle for second-tier options that may sound like a far cry from their original top target, Lewis Hall.
It remains to be seen if they could finally launch an onslaught for Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde, or perhaps trigger Jorge Salinas’ €16 million release clause. David Raum and Ferdi Kadioglu have also been mentioned as possible targets, while fresh names could emerge out of the blue during the day.
