The NFL has made an initial decision on Jonathon Cooper's roster status with the Denver Broncos.
Roger Goodell has placed Cooper on the commissioner's exempt list, according to multiple reports. The outside linebacker is expected to plead not guilty to all five charges related to his felony assault case on Monday. Because the legal process has not yet completed, the NFL is not handing down a suspension (yet — that could still happen down the road).

Instead, Cooper will still be paid while on the exempt list, and he will be allowed to participate in team meetings and work out at the club's facility. Cooper will not be eligible to practice or play in games while on the exempt list, however, and he will not count against the team's 53-man active roster limit.
Cooper is facing charges after two arrests following alleged incidents involving his former girlfriend earlier this summer. Denver will likely go into the regular season with at least Nik Bonitto, Jonah Elliss, Que Robinson and Dondrea Tillman on the active roster.
