Kentucky makes final six schools for top 30 2027 guard

With five star wing Ryan Hampton already committed to Kentucky basketball in the 2027 recruiting class, coach Mark Pope is working on his best class yet. He still needs to add a few good players, and is working on guard Chase Lumpkin.

Per Joe Tipton of Rivals, Kentucky has Lumpkin as a priority target, and Lumpkin has the Wildcats among the contenders for his service. In fact, he has cut his list of possible schools down to six, and Kentucky is one of them. The others include Arkansas, Southern California, the Alabama Crimson Tide, Michigan Wolverines, and their regular recruiting nemesis: Louisville.

Lumpkin is a 6'3", 190 lb combo guard out of Georgia. He is currently rated four stars by 247Sports and ranks as their No. 26 overall player in the 2027 class.

Whichever team lands him is getting one of the more well-rounded players in the class. He can score, and averaged over 17 points per game on the EYBL circuit this summer. However, he is also a good passer and developing defender. His 6'8" wingspan also allows him to rebound well despite his size.

Lumpkin is a player who can certainly rise even higher in the rankings as his game further develops. He isn't a great three-point shooter, but he should be able to improve it with some work. His ceiling is sky-high, and Kentucky would love to add him to next year's class.
