Kellom leads EIU to Week 0 win at Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. (WCIA) -- Eastern Illinois football got off to a strong start for the 2026 season with a win at Murray State 28-14 on Thursday, August 27.
Team captain running back Charles Kellom had a huge day on the ground, rushing for 171 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns.

The senior's second score came on an 88-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter.
Cole LaCrue was the opening game starting quarterback for a second straight season.
He went 11-of-18 through the air for 101 yards and one touchdown pass.
The EIU defense forced two turnovers, and Ja'Wuan Nickson led the team with 10 tackles and an interception.
Eastern travels to face Minnesota next week on Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m. before returning to Charleston for the season opener against Indiana State on Saturday, September 12 at 6:00 p.m.
