Atletico Madrid may have formally announced that the club won’t negotiate with Barcelona for Julian Alvarez, but the prospect of his departure continues to loom large.
The Argentine international notably missed training at Atletico Madrid for the second day in a row on Thursday as tensions between him and the club and its fans continue to sour.
This has led many to believe that exit could be on the cards for the attacker despite Atletico Madrid’s best efforts to keep him at the club.

This means the forward has missed training for the third consecutive day, sparking more speculation that he may leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window.
Alvarez was handed a cold reception during Atletico Madrid’s league opener against Villarreal, which was enough to indicate that he is not welcome at the club.
Now, as Atleti prepare for their next league game against Sevilla tomorrow evening, Alvarez has missed training once again.
What is Barcelona’s position?
Barcelona and Arsenal have emerged as the only possible suitors for Alvarez, should the player end up leaving Atletico Madrid by the end of the summer transfer window.

Atletico Madrid, though, have no desire to sell their star player to Barcelona and the player’s long contract means the club have the leverage to do so.
Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin has constantly fired shots at the Catalans for the way they have conducted the Alvarez operation and remains determined not to let the club get their hands on the Argentine star.
Barcelona, though, have not given up hope completely and have recently turned to Atletico Madrid captains Koke, Jan Oblak and Jose Maria Gimenez to try and convince the club to sell the player.
The coming days, therefore, could be critical as Barcelona look to engineer Alvarez’s move to Catalonia, against all odds.
