Hindu priest charged with sex assault in Oshawa; 8 arrested in Toronto stolen-vehicle investigation

An American Hindu priest is facing a sexual assault charge after allegedly “deceiving” a woman into believing she was “possessed by evil spirits,” convincing her that she needed a religious ceremony to heal herself, Durham Regional Police said.

Police said the victim was sexually assaulted during the ceremony in Oshawa on Tuesday when she went to a private location in the area of Harmony Rd. N. and Conlin Rd. E.
Police said the suspect was later taken into custody without incident.
Rajendranauth Doodnauth Maraj, 50, from Richmond Hill, N.Y., is charged with sexual assault.
Police said they are releasing a photo of the accused as they believe there may be more victims.

4 adults, 4 teens charged in stolen-vehicle bust
Toronto Police said four adults and four teens have been arrested in a stolen‑vehicle and firearms investigation in the city’s east end on Sunday night.
Police said their investigation began with the arrest of a wanted man in the Dundas St. E. and Sumach St. area.
Police allege that as officers approached, the man and a youth fled, but both were arrested after a brief foot pursuit.
Cops said while conducting a search of the two, officers found a loaded AR-15-style rifle with 27 rounds of 5.56-calibre ammunition.
Officers then executed a search warrant at a home in the Dundas St. E. and Sumach St. area and seized seven master keys, two programing devices, which police said were designed to assist in stealing vehicles.
Five more people were arrested.
Kevin Joao, 20, of Toronto, has been charged with several charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, 13 counts of possession of an automobile master key, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
A 16-year-old boy from Toronto is also facing several charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, and seven counts of possession of an automobile master key.
Jahmier Adams, 19, of Toronto, has charged with two counts of failure to comply with release order, seven counts of possession of an automobile master key, and two counts of possession of a device for the purpose of committing theft.
Lamario Reddick, 20, and Noah Lall, 18, both from Toronto, have each been charged with seven counts of possession of an automobile master key, and two counts of possession of a device for the purpose of committing theft.
Three 16-year-old girls are also facing the same charges as Reddick and Lall.
The teens can’t be identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Vehicle sought in connection to shootings in East York
Toronto Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a vehicle linked to three shootings in East York in recent days.
Police said on Sunday, at 4 a.m., unknown suspects opened fire at two residential apartment buildings at 47 Thorncliffe Park Dr., and 49 Thorncliffe Park Dr.
Then on Wednesday, at 2:30 a.m., shots were also fired a residential apartment building at 43 Thorncliffe Park Dr.
Police said no injuries were reported in all three incidents.
Police said a vehicle, believed to be a black 2016 to 2020 Honda Civic with tinted windows and no front licence plate and an unknown rear licence plate, was used in the three shootings.
