There is a ray of hope for the Lions as they have been able to select a solid side, while the All Blacks have of course spared all of their first-choice players for this Saturday’s second Test in Cape Town.

“We can make history,” Lions defence coach and Springbok legend Jaque Fourie said. “But we also have to be true to ourselves, to implement what we’ve been doing.

“We should also have fun while doing it. We have to be in the contest for 80 minutes; I think that’s the biggest thing.”

  • Tuesday’s match will be an historic first encounter between the Lions and the All Blacks.  The All Blacks played the Lions predecessor Transvaal selection sides eight times between 1928 and 1976.  The locals won the very first match 6-0, with the All Blacks winning the next seven.
