So they've been outscored in two preseason games, 46-10. It should be noted that many starters and key players have not played for the Dolphins in those games.
Still, coach Jeff Hafley said after the last game: "We're not where we need to be."
No time like the present for an Overreaction Sunday.
Let’s overreact … or not?
The Dolphins may go 0-17
Overreaction? Yes. It's very, very rare for any team to win zero or one games in any NFL season. USA Today has predicted a 1-16 finish. But the Dolphins do have capable players such as Malik Willis, De'Von Achane, Aaron Brewer, Patrick Paul, Kadyn Proctor, Zach Sieler, Jordyn Brooks, Jacob Rodriguez and Chris Johnson. That group should be capable of winning at least three games this season. But, for the millionth time, wins should not be the priority in 2026. Player development and strong founration and development should be.
The Dolphins aren't physical enough
Overreaction? Yes. Hafley was pleased with the physicality the Dolphins defense has show against the Giants on defense. Miami's offensive line was overwhelmed in the joint practice. The Dolphins are going to lose a lot of games. But we believe Hafley is not going tolerate a lack of toughness, physicality or effort on either side of the ball. If Hafley see it, we believe those players will be benched.
The Dolphins aren't talented enough
Overreaction No. ESPN says Miami has the worst roster in the NFL and it isn't even close. They're probably right, to be honest. But this was intentional. The other guys can get their lumps in now. The Dolphins believe the setback will lead to a big comeback, starting in 2027 and beyond.
The Dolphins have a backup QB problem
Overreaction? No. Cam Miller was OK on Saturday. Miami will probably roll with Quinn Ewers if and when he's healthy. But Miami will also surely consider any 22-to-25 year old quarterbacks drafted in the first three or four rounds over the last three or four seasons who are waived in the near future. Why not?
The Dolphins rebuild will take four years
Overreaction? Yes. Teams can turn is around very quickly in the NFL. It all depends on how well general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan navigates the draft and free agency. This year is a salary cap calamity due to a total reset required by the failures of a previous regime. That does not mean Miami cannot contend for a playoff spot in 2027 and an AFC title in 2028. I'm not saying it will happen. I'm saying it's not impossible.
