Born in Portugal and raised in Norfolk, England, Castro developed through the Sporting CP academy before continuing his football journey in England. He joined West Brom in 2021 and made his senior debut against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. He later made another first-team appearance against Swansea City and spent time on loan at Burton Albion, Notts County and Gateshead.
After leaving West Brom in 2023, Castro continued his career with several English clubs, including York City, Chippenham Town, Cambridge City and Eastbourne Borough. He had returned to Portugal and joined Real Sport Clube this summer. York City, where he played during the 2023-24 season, described him as a much-loved member of their squad and expressed condolences to his family and friends.
West Brom said it was “devastated” by Castro’s untimely death and announced plans to honour their former player during their Championship fixture against Burnley. The club will hold a period of applause in the 25th minute and players will wear black armbands. Real Sport Clube and Estrela da Amadora also paid tribute to Castro following the tragedy, as the football community mourned the sudden loss of a player who died at just 25.
