Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A major fire broke out at an infant unit of a hospital in Chhindwara on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Three newborns suffered burns, and one of them is said to be critical.

Three newborn babies suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out in a warmer machine at the NICU of a hospital in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh. The incident happened at mearly 2 am on August 22.

According to information, the incident happened nearly 2am on Saturday at the Sick Newborn Care Unit. Three newborns were kept in the intensive care machine to maintain normal body temperature after birth.
During the night, there was a sparking in the warmer's heating unit, causing a fire. The babies were in the machine when the incident happened. They suffered burn injuries. Doctors and hospital staff immediately removed the infants from the warmer and began treatment.
No pediatric surgeon available in Chhindwara hospital
The babies were sent to Jabalpur Hospital, as there was no paediatric surgeon available in the Chhindwara Hospital.
Visuals show panic in the hospital premises as staff rush to evacuate the newborn. Worried, family members were seen waiting outside the New Born Care Unit.

The clip also shows a nurse carefully shifting an infant with a drip attached. The hospital staff inspected the intensive care machines after the fire incident. Technicians were called for a detailed check to prevent any such incidents in the future.
Another video shows the babies being transported in an ambulance to Jabalpur hospital for advanced treatment. Two doctors were present in the ambulance to handle emergencies in case the infants' situation deteriorates on the way.
