The Cleveland Browns headed into their joint practice with the Buffalo Bills with a lot to prove and the hope that they could solidify some of the key decisions they need to make on the roster. According to all reports, the Browns proved they belonged with the Bills, overall, and HC Todd Monken reported that veteran starters on the offense are unlikely to play in the second preseason game.

While Monken was excited about what he saw and a chance to match up with Buffalo in Berea, the roster concern at defensive end grew with starter Alex Wright being carted off the field early in practice:

Wright was injured on this play, seemingly something related to his ankle or Achilles area on his left leg:

In four seasons, Wright has had 11.5 sacks, 15 QB hits, 21 tackles for loss, eight pass deflections, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one safety in 51 games, including 15 starts.

Monken did not have an update on Wright at the end of practice.

Cleveland GM Andrew Berry had already worked out a number of veterans prior to Wright’s injury, with the options dropping as training camp continues. According to Over the Cap, Bryce Huff, Haason Reddick, Joey Bosa, Leonard Floyd, Kyle Van Noy, and Jihad Ward are the top edge rushers left in NFL free agency.

How big of a loss do you think Wright would be for the Browns? Any of the above free agents interest you?
