Plum played only 14 minutes on Sunday before leaving with a left calf injury in Phoenix’s 95-75 road loss to the Washington Mystics. The Mercury never led and trailed by as much as 29 points while taking their third straight loss. Kahleah Copper scored 15 points for Phoenix, Noemie Brochant came off the bench for 13, and Alyssa Thomas finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
The Sparks, just 2-8 in their last 10 games, made the game close late after trailing by as much as 19 in an 84-78 loss to the visiting Golden State Valkyries on Sunday night. Nneka Ogwumike went for 16 points and seven rebounds, Erica Wheeler scored 15 points, and Dearica Hamby added 12.
Los Angeles comes in six games behind the Dallas Wings for the last playoff spot with 13 games remaining. Ogwumike averages 17.1 points and 8.8 rebounds while Hamby gets 15.1 points per game and Wheeler dishes 5.4 assists a night. The Mercury have just 10 games to make up a seven-and-a-half-game deficit and are led by Copper’s average of 17.3 points. Thomas puts up 14.8 points, 8.2 assists and 7.4 rebounds per game.
