Former Kaizer Chiefs coach returns to Amakhosi in good form

Kaze could hardly have asked for a better start with Sekhukhune United. He has won both of his matches so far, beating Durban City 1-0 in the league before securing a dramatic 4-3 extra-time victory over AmaZulu in the MTN8 quarter-finals.
CÉDRIC KAZE RETURNS TO FNB STADIUM
His team, known as Babina Noko, will arrive in confident mood. They are also unbeaten under Kaze and will believe they can take advantage of a Kaizer Chiefs side still trying to recover from a disappointing weekend.
Kaze has admitted that returning to face his former club will be an emotional occasion. However, his focus will be on maintaining Sekhukhune’s excellent start rather than the sentiment surrounding his return.
The visitors also have players who know Amakhosi well. Former Amakhosi defender Daniel Cardoso is among the experienced players in the Sekhukhune squad and could play an important role in a difficult away fixture.
Kaizer Chiefs, meanwhile, need a response. They opened their season with an impressive 3-1 win over Kruger United, but suffered a 1-0 defeat to Lamontville Golden Arrows in the MTN8 quarter-final.

That result ended their hopes of winning the competition and increased the pressure on Fernando Da Cruz. The Kaizer Chiefs coach now needs his team to quickly regain confidence in the Betway Premiership.
KAIZER CHIEFS AND SEKHUKHUNE UNITED SPLIT LAST SEASON
The two clubs shared the spoils in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership. Both teams won away from home in their two league meetings.
Sekhukhune claimed the first victory on 16 September 2025 at FNB Stadium. Babina Noko stunned Chiefs with a convincing 3-1 win.
Bradley Grobler opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Flávio Silva quickly levelled for Amakhosi in the 13th minute. Grobler restored Sekhukhune’s lead five minutes after half-time before Thabang Monare added a third in the 56th minute.
Kaizer Chiefs then got their revenge in the second meeting on 10 May 2026. Amakhosi beat Sekhukhune 2-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The match appeared destined for a goalless draw until Tashreeq Morris broke the deadlock in the 86th minute. Mfundo Vilakazi then sealed the victory from the penalty spot in stoppage time.
