The Chicago Bears were back at Halas Hall for their 10th practice of training camp on Sunday, where they conducted their fifth padded workout indoors due to inclement weather.

The Bears held a roughly two-hour practice inside the Walter Payton Center, and it didn't go without another notable injury as rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas was injured during 7-on-7. It was an overall mixed day for the offense, where quarterback Caleb Williams threw two interceptions but there were some standout playmakers on offense, including running back D'Andre Swift and wide receivers Jahdae Walker and Kaden Davis. Veteran safety Xavier Woods made a strong impression, as did rookie cornerback Malik Muhammad.

Let's recap Day 10 of Bears training camp:

Takeaways

  • Rookie Zavion Thomas exits practice with injury: It's hard to believe that it's been nearly a week since the last time the Bearshave gotten through a practice without a notable player being injured. On Sunday, it was rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas, who suffered an apparent leg injury. According to Adam Hoge, Thomas "briefly grabbed his knee and then walked off with a slight limp." The injury occurred when he got knocked down during 7-on-7 drills, per Sean Hammond. Thomas did not return to practice. Thomas is the latest in a long line of injuries that have happened in the last few days, including receiver Luther Burden III, defensive end Montez Sweat, left tackle Braxton Jones, safety Cam Lewis, linebacker D'Marco Jackson, cornerback Jaylon Jones and, of course, safety Coby Bryant.
  • Xavier Woods makes impression in debut with starters: The Bears just signed veteran safety Xavier Woods a couple days ago, but he made a strong impression working with the first-team defense alongside rookie Dillon Thieneman. Mark Carman noted that Woods "made a strong impression" on Sunday. According to Adam Jahns, Woods intercepted quarterback Caleb Williams on a Hail Mary-like heave in the final team period and also delivered a huge hit on tight end Colston Loveland on a fourth-and-10 play. Before practice, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen praised Woods' experience and familiarity with defensive backs coach Al Harris and was excited to see him work. Safe to say Allen liked what he saw.
  • Malik Muhammad saw "heavy workload" at nickel: At nickel cornerback, Jaylon Jones remained sidelined and rookie Malik Muhammad once again worked with the starting defense. According to Adam Jahns, Muhammad saw "a heavy workload" at nickel with the first-team defense and was also part of Dennis Allen's dime package. Overall, there was "plenty of work overall for the rookie today," as Muhammad continues to get opportunities amid a beat-up secondary. It's a valuable learning experience as Brad Biggs shared one learning experience for the rookie "On one play, (Caleb Williams) rolled out left and Malik got locked up covering D'Andre Swift … didn't see CW18 motoring past him. Good lesson there. Have to see the ball."
  • D'Andre Swift had a standout day: Running back D'Andre Swift is one of the most underrated players on the Bears roster, and he had a standout practice on Sunday. According to Mark Carman, Swift was "all over the field catching passes, looking fast, shifty." and Dan Wiederer said he looked "GOOD" and continued to stack a "strong camp." Swift was key in a situational four-minute offense drills, where he had two big runs for first downs (11 and 15 yards). Chris Kwiecinski added Swift was "shifty with burst, and had big gains in nearly every team period."
  • Jahdae Walker, Kaden Davis getting opportunities: Luther Burden III suffered a groin injury on Saturday afternoon, where there's currently no timetable for his return, but the hope is he'll be ready for Week 1. With Burden sidelined, it's opened up opportunities for players like Jahdae Walker and Kaden Davis to make an impression -- and they did just that on Sunday. Walker had a "good" day, per Mark Carman. "Tough catch in one-on-one drills on the end zone on perfect pass from Caleb. Also caught a bomb from Caleb on a busted coverage for a TD." Sean Hammond noted that Walker saw "lots of run" with the starters. Meanwhile, Davis continues to be one of the biggest surprises of training camp. According to Adam Hoge, Davis had a walk-off 34-yard touchdown from Tyson Bagent to wrap practice. "He also dusted Dillion Thieneman in the open field earlier in practice when the rookie safety took a bad angle." -- Alyssa Barbieri

Injury updates

Injuries have piled up for the Bears through 10 practices with rookie receiver Zavion Thomas suffering an apparent leg injury. The good news was that cornerback Tyrique Stevenson was back at practice after coming up limping during Saturday's practice (the same rep where Luther Burden was injured). Here's who wasn't spotted at practice: Burden, defensive end Montez Sweat, safety Coby Bryant, left tackle Braxton Jones, safety Cam Lewis, cornerbacks Terell Smith and Jaylon Jones and linebacker D'Marco Jackson.
