The Minnesota Lynx became the first team in the WNBA this season to clinch a spot in the playoffs after securing a 103-90 win over the visiting Dallas Wings, Sunday, Aug. 9 in Minneapolis.

And the Lynx’s top players are playing at their very best as the season winds down.

In the victory for Minnesota, Kayla McBride broke the WNBA record for most 3-pointers made in a single game by knocking down 10-of-14 shots from behind the arc. McBride, the 34-year-old veteran guard out of Notre Dame, scored a career-high 43 points in a win.

The previous record was nine 3-pointers in a single game, a mark that several players had achieved. Marina Mabrey of the Toronto Tempo and Chelsea Gray of the Las Vegas Aces did it most recently in games this season.

According to ESPN, McBride shot 8-of-9 off feeds from Olivia Miles against the Wings. McBride was also a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor when she was being guarded by Paige Bueckers. McBride broke the record when she caught a pass from teammate Napheesa Collier and fired a 3-pointer from the left corner in front of the Lynx bench.

“When you have a good moment, you just soak it all in. I’m just very grateful. It’s my 13th year in the league, and I’m exactly where I want to be. I’m so grateful to the city of Minneapolis,” McBride said after the game. “Once I saw the first couple go down … now I’m just kind of in the zone. Just feeling the energy and trying to get a (win).”

Minnesota also got 20 points and a season-high 13 assists from Miles, the favorite for Rookie of the Year. Collier added 17 points while Natasha Howard scored 12.

With a 27-7 record and 10 games remaining in the regular season, Minnesota has the chance to set a franchise record for most wins in a single season. The current best mark by the Lynx came last season when they went 34-10.

The Lynx have won two consecutive games and will play again on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at the Portland Fire.
