Canada deported 3,323 Indian citizens in the first six months of 2026, PTI cited data from the country’s border services agency as saying.
In 2025, Canada deported 3,779 Indian citizens.
In the first half of 2026, Indians also accounted for the largest number of deportations from Canada, followed by Mexicans, at 1,573.
Mexico has recorded the highest number of deportations from Canada in each of the previous five years, while India has ranked second.
India last had the highest number of deportations in 2020, when 1,424 Indian citizens were deported.
In 2021, the number of Indians removed from Canada was 603 which rose to 786 in 2022, 1,132 in 2023 and 2,004 in 2024, data from Canada Border Services Agency said.
The agency does not provide a country-wise breakdown of the reasons for removal. Canada routinely deports Indian nationals primarily due to non-compliance with immigration rules, rejected asylum or refugee claims, visa overstays and visa fraud scams, PTI reported.
In 2026, Indians also made up the largest group in Canada’s “removal in progress inventory”, with 7,669 people awaiting deportation.
