Toronto man, 78, arrested in assault case; two more charged for hate propaganda

A 78-year-old Toronto man has been arrested and charged following an alleged assault last month.
Police said officers were called to the area of Queen St. E. and Pape Ave. at about 9 a.m. on July 27 for reports of an assault. There, they found a person with injuries.
The victim was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the suspect and the victim knew each other.
On Monday, police arrested Jian Liu and charged him with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

Two more suspects accused of hate propaganda
Toronto Police say they have arrested two more suspects in relation to a hate propaganda incident at a North York demonstration this past March.
According to police, the incident took place March 15 at about 1:15 p.m. at a protest in which demonstrators and counter-demonstrators gathered at the intersection of Bathurst St. and Sheppard Ave. W.
Police say a number of people allegedly retrieved antisemitic signs from a storage locker and later displayed them in full view of the public and a group of pro-Israeli demonstrators across the street from the protest. The suspects allegedly marched with the signs towards the group of Israel supporters and shouted derogatory slurs.
In April, police arrested Muhammad Anas Sial, 33, of Toronto, and charged him with public incitement of hatred and wilful promotion of hatred.
In June, cop then arrested Hosaam Hemdan, 19, Omer Turcan, 43, Yasaf Skaikh, 46, Hasan Aydin, 47, all of Toronto, and Syed Hussaini, 43, of Whitby. They were all charged with wilful promotion of hatred and public incitement of hatred.
Hemdan, Turcan, and Hussaini were additionally charged with disguise to intent.
On Friday, police said members of the Hate Crime Unit executed a search warrant, which resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects.
Daniela Bonamico, 40, and Shahram Nayeb-Yazdi, 63, both of Toronto, have been charged with wilful promotion of hatred and public incitement of hatred.
Bonamico and Nayeb-Yazdi were scheduled to appear at Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Saturday.

North York shooting sends one to hospital
One person is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a shooting in North York late Friday.
Toronto Police said on social media that officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Jane St. and Shoreham Dr. shortly after 11 p.m. Upon arrival, cops found a person suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police say two groups of people were shooting at each other, with the suspects fleeing on foot. There was evidence of gunfire in the area, cops added.
The investigation is ongoing.

Barrie man facing attempted murder charge
A 42-year-old Barrie man is facing attempted murder and other charges following a targeted incident in Bradford West Gwillimbury on Thursday night.
South Simcoe Police said officers responded to a report of a person who was allegedly struck intentionally by the driver of a vehicle in a Bradford residential neighbourhood.
Upon arrival, police said officers located the victim, who was then treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Cops allege the incident was targeted and that the accused and victim were known to each other.
An unnamed Barrie man was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, criminal harassment, uttering threats, and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
The suspect is scheduled for a bail hearing on Wednesday.
Cops recover $800K in stolen cargo, vehicles in Brampton
Peel Regional Police say about $800,000 worth of stolen cargo and commercial vehicles have been recovered in Brampton after an investigation by its Commercial Auto Crime Bureau
As a follow-up to an investigation into a stolen trailer, on July 22, police said officers attended the area of Heart Lake Rd. and Countryside Dr. in Brampton.
In the area, cops found four stolen commercial vehicles and trailers with an approximate value of $105,000. The recovered vehicles included a 2015 Volvo VNL tractor, a 2016 Utility Manufacturing trailer, a 1998 Stoughton trailer, and a 2021 Utility Manufacturing trailer.
Upon searching the recovered trailers, officers also found two shipments of stolen computer equipment that were unrelated to the vehicle theft investigations. Investigators believe the cargo had been transferred in the stolen trailers after separate thefts that happened on July 17 and July 20.
The computer equipment has an estimated value of $681,083.68, bringing the total value of recovered items to $786,083.68.
So far, no suspects have been identified in relation to the investigation.

Three arrested, vehicles recovered in Milton
Three people have been arrested and three stolen vehicles were recovered following an investigation last month involving a vehicle theft in Milton.
Halton Regional Police said, on July 21, officers ventured to the Milton Toyota dealership, at 1245 Steeles Ave. E., after a Toyota Sequoia was stolen from the lot in the early morning hours.
The next day, investigators found the stolen vehicle in a shipping container in North York. Three people were subsequently arrested.
A Toyota Tundra and Honda CR-V, which were stolen from the Greater Toronto Area, were also recovered, cops said.
Joel Hinson, 66, and Bright Mensah, 37, both of Brampton, and Isaac Boamah, 34, of North York, were charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Mensah was additionally charged with failing to comply with a probation order.
The suspects were released on a promise to appear at a future court date in Milton.
