The experienced midfielder has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with a further one-year option.

In a statement, Guimaraes said: “I’m so excited to join you. I will give you my best, I promise. I’m your warrior, I’ll never give up. Hopefully we can create many, many good memories together.”

Arsenal missed out on signing Vinicius Junior, who extended his contract with Real Madrid until 2032.

However, their fans will be happy to see the club have completed the signing of Guimaraes, who is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

He has made 195 appearances across all competitions, bagging 31 goals and 32 assists in the process.

The 28-year-old played a key role in Newcastle’s League Cup triumph in 2024-25, which ended the club’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.

He was part of the Brazil squad at the World Cup, starting every match before Norway eliminated them in the round of 16.

Guimaraes is Premier League proven, who is highly rated for his passing range and goalscoring ability.

Newcastle had no intention of selling their captain after losing Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur.

But the Brazilian informed the Tyneside club of his wish to leave St James’ Park and join Arsenal.

The North Londoners initially expressed a willingness to pay a fee up to £60m, which was turned down by Newcastle.

The two clubs ultimately agreed a £75m fee for the experienced midfielder.
