The Tigers’ recent trade of Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers rocked Major League Baseball on Aug. 1. However, the veteran MLB ace went on Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” to offer Tigers fans false hope about a future reunion.

Skubal spent the first six-plus seasons of his MLB career in Detroit before being abruptly traded before the 2026 deadline. However, his recent “Pardon My Take” appearance reveals that he’s not over being moved out of Detroit.
“I would love to play my entire career in Detroit,” Skubal said on the Aug. 7 podcast.
The only problem with Skubal’s comments are that Detroit offered him a new contract to keep him with the Tigers. Also, he’s already played games for Los Angeles, which means he cannot play his whole career with Detroit.

The Dodgers’ rental of Skubal this season is extremely favorable for the reigning World Series champions. Los Angeles boasts the best roster in baseball and the team is surely capable of winning it all once again.
“Hopefully those negotiations can pick back up once the playoffs are done,” Skubal said when asked about a potential Tigers return.
However, Skubal’s either wishful in saying that he could come back to the Tigers or simply doesn’t want Detroit fans to bombard him with displeasure. Detroit isn’t the type of franchise to invest heavily in long-term contracts.

The Tigers have little chance of re-signing Skubal in the future, barring a change to MLB’s player contract structure. The elite pitcher could make more than $300 million on his next contract.

The league continues to move closer towards a lockout in 2027, especially given the nature of the deals that the Dodgers have completed. Los Angeles boasts a payroll north of $430 million when taking the luxury tax into account.
