Angel Reese Drops One-Word Reaction After Chelsea Gray Capitalizes on Caitlin Clark’s Blunders in Thrilling Win For Aces
· Yahoo Sports
Angel Reese celebrated Chelsea Gray on Thursday after the Las Vegas Aces guard made back-to-back buzzer beaters in her team’s 86-84 overtime win over Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever. Reese’s biggest rival, Clark, was at fault on both occasions. In the fourth quarter, Clark missed consecutive free throws with seven seconds left, which could have made it a two-possession game. Gray hit the game-tying 3-pointer, sending it to overtime.

With seven seconds left on the game clock in overtime, Clark committed a turnover against A’ja Wilson, and Gray hit the buzzer-beating game-winner on the other end. As the WNBA world criticized Clark and hailed Gray’s clutch performance, Reese also joined in with a one-word reaction.
“LAKEISHAAAAA,” Reese wrote on X.
“Lakeisha” is a popular nicknameKahlea Copper gave her during Unrivaled. It was a made-up name, as Copper had no idea what Gray’s middle name was. Reese was also on their team, Rose BC, so it’s an internal joke between them.
Gray finished the game with only 11 points on 4-for-10 shooting, but she had the biggest and most decisive plays of the night. Gray also added seven assists. She played the highest minutes across both teams at 40:26 and had a plus-minus of +6 in a two-point win.
Chelsea Gray becomes the first player to make regulation and overtime buzzer beaters
The Las Vegas Aces shared that Chelsea Gray became the first player in WNBA history on Thursday to make a game-tying regulation buzzer-beater and a game-winning overtime buzzer-beater in the same game. It was one of the rarest feats a player has achieved in not just the WNBA but in basketball.
Gray gave insight into her clutch shots during an interview on SportsCenter, saying:
“It’s like you’re in the moment and everything is kinda like (in) slow motion, and both times I looked up at the clock, and I was like, ‘Oh, well, got to shoot this thing.'”
Chelsea Gray also gave Jackie Young her flowers for her role in those plays.
“Both were assisted by Jackie,” she said. “So much faith, man. … Basketball gods were on our side, right?”
In her 12th season at age 33, Gray continues to prove that there’s no replacement for experience in the pros. She’s also well-conditioned and playing huge minutes. On Thursday, she played a game-high 40 minutes, being the only player to do so.
For the season, Chelsea Gray is averaging 33.0 minutes, the most she has in nine years, while scoring 12.9 points and dishing 7.2 assists, both marks being her best over the past three seasons. She’s shooting 45.8% from the field and 39.6% from 3-point range, which is also her personal best since 2024.
