Bhopal Memorial Hospital And Research Centre Shuts Pathology Labs, X-Ray Facilities

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) has shut down pathology and X-ray facilities in all eight sub-units. The BMHRC administration denied the claim, stating that new machines would be installed soon.
BMHRC operates eight mini units (satellite health centres) across Bhopal to provide first-level and primary healthcare services to gas tragedy survivors before referring them to the main super-speciality hospital. Pathology laboratories have been shut down in all the sub-units, according to Bhopal gas tragedy victims who are patients of BMHRC.

BMHRC, however, said that it was strengthening its pathology testing system in compliance with current regulatory provisions and quality standards.
All tests are conducted under the supervision of expert pathologists, resulting in significant improvements in quality, accuracy and reliability. Under the new system, tests such as thyroid profiles, Vitamin D and Vitamin B12, which were previously not feasible on a daily basis at the health centres, are now available.
The hospital said the claim regarding the discontinuation of X-ray services was baseless. No decision has been taken to terminate X-ray facilities at any of BMHRC's health centres. On the contrary, a process is underway to equip the X-ray services at these centres with modern digital technology. Most X-ray machines installed at the health centres are more than two decades old.
The administrative and technical procedures are nearing completion, and the new digital machines will soon be installed at health centres. Until the new machines are installed, any patient requiring an X-ray will undergo the procedure at BMHRC main hospital.
