The Washington Commanders are making a significant roster move in the first week of August, with training camp underway at the wide receiver position.

But it's not a trade for disgruntled San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Instead, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it's a one-year deal for Stefon Diggs worth up to $12 million.
This update from Schefter, on the Commanders adding Diggs, is likely some bad news for Aiyuk. Why? It's simple: The Commanders no longer need Aiyuk as they might have before today.
Brandon Aiyuk gets bad news amid Commanders' Stefon Diggs signing
"Sources: Stefon Diggs is expected to sign a one-year deal worth up to $12 million with the Commanders," Schefter reports.
This addition for the Commanders is a great one, as it now gives Jayden Daniels a much better wide receiver room behind Terry McLaurin.
Now, Luke McCaffrey, Antonio Williams, Treylon Burks, and others won't have to be so heavily relied upon for the upcoming season.
However, from Aiyuk's perspective, this might be the worst news possible. Washington has just gone out and added arguably the best WR available.

Now, the Commanders have no real reason to acquire Aiyuk. He'd just be depth on this team at best, and considering his social media antics this offseason, he'd more likely than not be a distraction.
They might still explore an Aiyuk addition if the 49ers finally decide to release him. But a trade before the season begins is hard to imagine is within the realm of possibility after this Diggs signing.
While this doesn't outright end the Aiyuk to Washington potential, it almost assuredly lowers the odds to near-zero percent. The future is murky for Aiyuk, especially now that Washington isn't such a slam-dunk landing spot for him if he's on the move.
