RIP | St Stithians College mourns deaths of pupil and recent matriculant

The St Stithians College community is mourning the loss of two much-loved members of its family following the deaths of Grade 11 pupil Cameron Waldeck-Cooks and recent matriculant Ethan Coetzee.
In separate tributes, the Johannesburg school described both students as exceptional young people whose kindness, leadership and commitment left a lasting impact on those around them.

Cameron Waldeck-Cooks remembered
Cameron Waldeck-Cooks, a Grade 11 pupil at the Girls’ College, passed away on Monday morning after spending 12 years at St Stithians, having joined the school in Grade R in 2015.
The school described Cameron as a valued member of the Saints family who immersed herself in many aspects of school life.
An accomplished sportswoman, she excelled in both rowing and netball. Her dedication to rowing earned her the admiration of teammates and coaches, while her willingness to mentor younger rowers saw her become a respected leader within the programme.
“Cameron will be remembered for her kindness, warmth and determination. She approached life with resilience, quiet strength and a genuine care for those around her,” the school said.
St Stithians extended its deepest condolences to the Waldeck-Cooks family, saying the entire community stands alongside them during their time of grief.
Ethan Coetzee honoured
The school also paid tribute to Boys’ College alumnus Ethan Coetzee, who completed his Grade R to Grade 12 journey at St Stithians between 2013 and 2025.
Ethan was remembered as a young man of “strength, commitment and humility” who excelled both academically and on the sports field.
He earned Rugby Colours as a member of the school’s 1st XV, was a national champion in eventing and served as a respected senior student in Penryn House, where he was known for mentoring younger pupils.
The school said Ethan possessed a natural warmth and charisma, building strong friendships and encouraging those around him with unwavering support.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, the Class of 2025 and all who mourn the loss of this joyful, determined young man,” the school said.
