Rockies Notebook: Moniak Reportedly Signing Extension

Mickey Moniak didn't get traded by the MLB Trade Deadline on Monday. For that matter, neither did Hunter Goodman, Jake McCarthy, Kyle Freeland, or Michael Lorenzen. Monday wasn't a full-blown dump of players.

Speaking of Moniak, it does appear that the Rockies are going to take steps to keep him around a bit longer.
Mickey Moniak has agreed to a two-year, $16.25 million extension with the #Rockies that runs through 2028, sources tell me and @feinsand. Deal should become official on Tuesday.

According to a report on Monday from DNVR Rockies, picked up from MLB.com Rockies reporter Thomas Harding, Moniak will sign a two-year extension with Colorado. Harding also indicated in his report that the deal will be finalized and announced on Tuesday.
Moniak is hitting .273 with 17 home runs and 47 RBIs. Before coming to the Rockies, Moniak played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Angels. He currently has a slash line of .273/.547/.863.
His work in left field for Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer has been a big plus as the team remains mired in last place in the National League West Division.
Now that he's going to be around a little longer in Denver, look for Moniak to play an even bigger role as Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes work on building around catcher Hunter Goodman.
Rockies, Rays open series on Monday nightThere's been a ton of attention on the trade deadline activity that did, or didn't happen.
Yet the games continue to be played.
On Monday night, the Tampa Bay Rays came into Coors Field to open a three-game series against the Rockies.
Lorenzen, by golly, got the start against Tampa Bay's Ian Seymour.
How does the rest of this three-game series shape up between both teams pitching-wise? On Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. MT, Gabriel Hughes takes the mound for Colorado. Tampa Bay has not named a starting pitcher yet.
Then, on Wednesday afternoon, Tomoyuki Sugano takes the hill for the Rockies against Nick Martinez. This might be the best game of all three as Sugano and Martinez both have double-digit wins in 2026.
All three games will be shown on Rockies.TV and can be heard on KOA Radio in the greater Denver metropolitan area.
Colorado good in interleague playWhile it just has been another tough season record-wise for Colorado, there are little sprouts of good news growing around the franchise.
For instance, Colorado has gone 16-11 in interleague play this season, which is a .593 winning percentage. It ranks as the sixth-beat percentage in the entire MLB this season. The Rockies haven't finished a regular season with a winning record against American League teams since 2018.
Against American League teams this season, the Rockies have gone 9-3 against them at Coors Field. That includes two sweeps of the Houston Astros early this season and last weekend's sweep of the Kansas City Royals.
