Texas A&M made a strong, legitimate push down to the wire for five‑star running back Landen Williams‑Callis, but in his live announcement, the Houston standout chose to stay in‑state with the Texas Longhorns.

The decision isn’t shocking given A&M’s deep stable of young backs already on the roster, but the Aggies were hoping to land their first running back in the 2027 class. With most of the top targets now off the board, the staff will likely pivot toward two paths. Working to flip a committed prospect closer to signing day or zeroing in on the few remaining unsigned backs. Given the youth in the room, it would be surprising if A&M didn’t sign a back in this class, but when a five‑star talent is available, you take your swing. A&M did exactly that.

Williams‑Callis enters his senior season chasing history. He is 3,828 yards away from the TXHSFB career rushing record held by Kaegan Ash and 692 yards from the Houston career rushing record set by his cousin, former Oregon State star Jacquizz Rodgers. He’s widely viewed as one of the highest‑floor prospects in the 2027 cycle, regardless of position a high‑major impact player with a clear trajectory toward becoming a legitimate pro prospect.

For now, A&M will regroup and reassess its board, but Williams‑Callis’ commitment underscores the level of talent the Aggies are targeting as they build out the future of their offense.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Williams-Callis is currently positioned as the 29th-ranked prospect in the cycle, the 3rd-ranked running back, and the 3rd-ranked prospect in Texas.
