Ex-LSU baseball player will enter transfer portal after court ruling

A member of the 2026 LSU baseball team will search for a new home. Brayden Simpson took to social media and announced he wanted to play a fifth year of college baseball and wrote he would enter the transfer portal on Monday.
Simpson will try to take advantage of a recent court ruling that granted an additional year of eligibility to athletes who began their career in 2022 and played four years. The NCAA is expected to appeal the ruling, so nothing is final. But for now, players who meet that criteria will look for roster spots. LSU baseball's 2027 roster looks to be full, so Simpson or any other players in his position will need to find a new school.

2026 was Simpson's lone season at LSU. Before Baton Rouge, Simpson played three years at High Point. Simpson hit .265 with the Tigers, totaling 13 hits and scoring 10 runs. Simpson spent most of the season in a reserve role.

In his four-year career, Simpson has appeared in 176 games, hitting 38 home runs with 145 RBI.
